Well got a oil leak. Took it in to the dealer they said it was the distributor. It would be around three hundred to four for labor plus parts very labor inteness. I trust my dealer they are good guys. I was at MIS corvette show and talked to a couple guys one of them said it cost him $1500. for parts and labor a few years back he had a 92 Vette. I can do the work this winter. I only have the Chilton manuals are the service manuals worth the investment? Do they have a aftermarket distributor that is better than the oringnal? I just love my Vette and it is hard to let anybodys hands on it except mine! Have more question but just want to do the most serious first.
Thanks Skiffer
On your 94 it's called an optispark, and no one on this planet can change it in 30 minutes. It is not that difficult to change, but will take some time. You also need to get the oil leak fixed while the car is apart, probably the timing cover seals.
Wow, kinda pricey. I just replaced mine in about 30 minutes for $130.00
Ken
his profile says '94, so he has the GenI Optispark which is quite expensive and mounted on front of engine. You can do the work yourself over the weekend. Dynaspark makes a better aftermarket Opti, complete with venting.....
If you do any work on the vette yourself, I would suggest in investing in the FSM's. They tell you everything you want to know about your vette. If you have a 94, you have a optispark, which is a labor intensive job. The 3-4 hundred dollars sounds like a good deal. As suggested, Dynaspark and MSD (new) make a aftermarket unit that is good. The L98 distrubitor is easy to remove and install but not your case.
