Default Rear Batt-wing install questions???

I have heard that the torque numbers for the rear bat-wing to the differential are 30 ft lbs. for the threaded bolts, and 35 ft lbs. for the thru-bolts. Can someone confirm this.

Also, would you run a tap down through the threads to clean-up any left-over silicone?

And should one use threadlock bule #242 or anti-seize lubricant on the aluminum threaded holes?

(I installed a rear-bat-wing on a '91 a few years ago and torquesd the bolts down to 30 ft lbs and nearly every aluminum thread stripped-out. Either my torque wrench was defective or the lubrication provided by the thread locker allowed the bolt to "neck down" too much prior to the torque wrenck clicking over); any thoughts on this....

Lastly, the mating surfaces on the two aluminum pieces are extremely smooth. Should one roughen up these surfaces prior to spraying on the "Right Stuff" Permatex gasket sealer?

Thanks!

Just tighten them pretty snug. You don't need a torque wrench for these, and if you're depending on one on telling you when to stop, you'll do more harm than good. I would not chase the aluminum threads either, that just makes for sloppy loose threads. I chewed up the mounting surface with a pick before applying the right stuff.

Torque wrenches are for rod caps and head bolts.
