Default "Crossbar" removal??

Has anyone had the front "crossbar" in front of the engine removed??
That is the bar on top of the '95 steering rack. I want to remove it because it will be easier to remove the engine/damper. And also it will be easier to work on the engine. It's mainly a drag car and once in a very while street driven. I was looking at it and I think it wouldn't hurt the chassis. Do you guys think it's safe to remove it??

No, it's not safe, but will it cause problems, probably not. Will it make it easier to work on, not much.

I made mine removeable early last year. After cutting it out we welded tabs on top of the center section and nuts on the frame stubs, works great when changing cams, just unbolt & go to work.

Good luck,
Dave

That's what I was thinking too. I think I'll go that way.
And for sure it will make it much much easier to work on the car, specially when you are a dragracer......

Thanks

You will never get the torsional rigidity of the welded assembly with a bolted joint. These chassis are too flexible as it is.

Well....I was looking at it today and if I'm not mistaken this part of the chassis is VERY important if you're running the stabilizer bar. The mounting bracket for the stabilizer are below the 'crossbar'. And the 'K-member' is about an inch behind it. So....I don't think it will do anything if you're dragracing....
