Default AC Oil Question

What type of Oil is used in a 93 with R-12? I am assuming it is Mineral based, but is it all the same automotive wise? ie viscosity etc.

GM put in mineral and mineral oil is all the same for A/C's. Now if you convert to R-134 than that opens up a whole new can of worms.

Thanks Randy, I thought it was, but I wanted to ask and make sure. I broke the line on the evap. coil about 2 years ago and never fixed it. I installed a new coil, but now I need to flush the line and condenser, replace the oil and recharge.

What happened to the evacuation requirement? I was told this removed all air and moisture from the system keeping it alive longer.

Anybody know the real story here?

If the broken ends of the line were not plugged, you need to replace the Accumalator, Evap, Compressor and all the o-rings on the hoses.
Because once air gets into the system, it will deteriorate the seals and rubber parts quickly.

It will, but the compressor will burnup without oil and the seals will still dryrot without the oil. You have to recharge right after the evacuation to keep the system alive, also if you do not replace all the components, then you have to you ester oil and not PAG.
