Well I am at it once again and have run into another snag. I have pulled off the catback, the passenger side header and am left with the driver's side cat and bracket and the passenger's side cat bracket. I was able to remove these while the C-Beam and the Driveshaft were out because I was able to tilt the engine and transmission down, but as it sits, I see no way of getting the top bolts out from the brackets. I was hoping to have these long tubes on tomorrow but it does not look promising.
Am I missing something? I can get a socket on there but with out a rachet. With the swivel on, there is no room to move. And forget about putting a wrench on there.
Someone please give me some ideas becuase I really do not want to have to unbolt the C-Beam and Driveshaft.
im installing em longtubes on my 96 and the cat brackets on the bellhousing look pretty difficult. i have a flowmaster cat back and ive managed to remove the passenger cat but the driver cat is still on do to the bellhousing bracket top bolt. i cut the pipes behind the resonater and plan on putting 2 straight pipes on until i can install an x pipe. by the way i purchased an offroad extension for the long tubes. im taking off the bracket tommorow, so if you still need help ill try to help if you shout.
Cut mine off with a cut-off wheel. A sawzall would also work.

I thought about that and it'll probably be the way I go. I'll just remove the rest of them over winter when I get the trans built and put in the new motor.
Those bolts are a biatch, just so you know, with patience you CAN get the drivers side out from the top. Remove the valve cover on that side, remove the windshield wiper motor assembly and there is just enough room for a wrench to fit down there. Still a pain but if you plan on re-using your cats you should have that bracket there.
The passenger side isn't that bad, a really long extension and swivel and it'll come out. Helps to have someone up top to locate things for you.
Only other way is like mentioned, tilt the engine tranny assembly down a bit and have at her.
My '92 doesn't have any cat brackets.
The cats connect at the manifold and the exhaust only.
Is this something that started in '93?

Not sure of the year they started, but there's one bracket on each side. The top of the bracket is held in place by the bellhousing bolts and the bottom of the bracket bolts to the cat.
