Mushy Brakes

'88 vert, Z52.

In the past few weeks my brakes have gotten kind of mushy. Takes 2-3 pumps to firm them up. Brake fluid levels are fine.

Thoughts?

Bleed each wheel. Squence order does not matter. Use teflon tape on the upper most threads of the bleed screw to eliminate any air getting past the threads.

Get a set of SpeedBleeders (4), and bleed/flush the brake system. Replace with a good synthetic like Valvoline. Its a one man, 20 minute job.

Sounds like you have air in the system or could be an issue with the master cylinder. I would think if enough air could get into the system to cause mushy brakes then fluid should be leaking out. Are the inside of your wheels wet? Have you check for leaks?

Just a thought. Try doing a search.

How old is your brake fluid? If it is old, or black, I would consider completely flushing it and putting in good DOT fluid. I had the same problem with my '94 and when I changed out the fluid, it was like a new system. Get the self-bleeders...IMHO
