Default Rear Hubs & Wheel Offset

Did I read somewhere that somthing in the rear hubs could be swapped with a different year to move the wheels inboard. I'd like to put 10.5 wheels on my 93 but I don't want any tire protrusion.

Thanks in advance!!

If the rear hub offset is messed with, the brake calipers will no longer fit the rotors.

What 10.5s do you have in mind? C5Z06 rear? There are others with your offset that have mounted these.

if you put 84-87 rear hubs/rotors/etc on your 88-93 you will move the wheel in 1''

etc is abbr for et cetera (latin)...means ''all that other sith'',,,anybody doin this will buy the whole chunks of etc and won't need a breakdown.

or the dimensional change?... i have a complete 88 rear, mocked it up on stands with the same halfshaft angles, etc (oops, that means..) the same as my 86 rear in the car,alongside on jackstands...dropped plumb bobs (no, that's not misspelled, one ''o'' is correct) to the floor from the rotor/wheel faces, measured both assy's and the the difference was 1-15/16"....what was your source?

If you use the early stuff the wheels will hit the trailing arm brackets on ZR1 11" wheels or ZO6 rears....Been there ...done that..

Apparently GM changed the wheel face location on the later cars then. 5/8" is the approx difference in offset of the 8.5" base rear wheels between 87-88.

Anyhow the guy wants to put 10.5s in back, and thought swapping bearing hubs might be the easy ticket. I don't think his intention was to replace the entire rear end of the car.

Thanks guys!

I am contemplating the 18x10.5 Black Z06 Motorsports from TomzWheels. I think the offset is 58mm but I can't seem to confirm from the web site. If the stock 17 x 9.5 offset is 56, does that mean only 2mm of the additional width is on the inboard side?

Offset measured from the center plane of the wheel to the mounting face.

Backspacing is what effects fitment/rubbing.

Backspacing = (width in / 2) + (offset mm/25.4) + .25

"Frontspacing" is what effects the look, how far the wheel lip sticks out.

Frontspacing = (widthe in / 2) - (offset mm/25.4) + .25

You can use this to compare any wheel with any wheel and get an idea where it'll mount on the car and if you need spacers. Someone out there has used those exact wheels on your year though.

You could try a new thread where you ask that specifically in the title.

Where does the +.25 at the end come from?

Wheel lip sticking out. Width measures to the mounting bead, which is on the the inner part of the wheel lip.
