O2 question

Default O2 question

I finally found out what was causing my rich condition, my right o2 sensor clip's plastic cover is broken off. Must of happened when my tranny was fixed.
But I cannot get the old one out, cannot get a socket on it and when I use a wrench< i can"t budge it
I have used penetrating oil and no help
anybody got a good idea?

Not sure how the plastic being broke would cause a rich condition. Usually it is because the sensor itself is loaded/contaminated or just plain bad.
Try PB blaster on it, do you have an 02 socket? If not big box end wrench and a little more muscle. Seems as though whomever installed did not use any anti seize and probably over torqued it.
I think if all else fails a little "heat wrench" would work since you are replacing it anyways.

with mseven. Try letting it soak in PB blaster overnight and get under there with the correct tool and some muscle. If the plastic was broken and the wire(s) were touching a ground, this situation could have caused the rich problem.

I pulled mine with the engine cold..but alot of guys have to warm it up to remove the 02. And I just cut the wire on the old 02 and used a socket if memory serves me.

Definitely get the exhaust pipe warm first. You want it very warm to the touch but not so hot it is uncomfortable coming in contact with it.

The only wrench that worked for me on the passenger side O2 was a Sears Craftsman 7/8" stubby. Regular length wrench was too long. I had to put the car on ramps and go at it from underneath with the stubby.
