I have a 94 Vette and want to know if there is a different setup for the Optispark? Do they have a conversion to the new style ignition? What I want is no distributor. And if so is it a good swap?
Its unbelievable that Chevrolet's engineers designed and used the opti spark ignition system. Its nothing but trouble and having to remove the waterpump, balancer etc to replace it is a plain joke as far as I am concerned. Mine is acting up a little and I am not looking forward to replacing it. I am sure if I took it in to a shop to be replaced it would cost a fortune so going to attempt it myself.
The Delteq and LTCC are aftermarket Distributorless Ignition System (DIS) conversion packages. Either system will still rely on the ECM to trigger the coilpacks, and for this the ECM will still rely on the low- and high-resolution optical timing signals from the Optispark. Delteq and LTCC allow you to eliminate the rotor & cap portion of the Opti.
DynaSpark and MSD offer aftermarket bolt-on replacements for the entire Opti unit (retaining the functionality of the rotor and cap, which seems to be what you hope to delete).
Has anybody tried the Delteq ignition? If so how do you like it? Kind of expensive. Plus will I have the front end off any other mods possiable that can be done maybe new wires? Dress up pulleys? I feel since I will take the trouble get to the Opti-spark might as well do some other stuff. Plus anybody tried the bigger throttle bodys and did you feel a improvement?
If the only problem with the Opti-Spark is the high-votage section (cap and rotor) and the optical section is OK, you don't have to do anything to the Opti-Spark -- just install the Delteq system, because it replaces the functionality of the cap and rotor.
If there is a problem with the optical section of the Opti-Spark, the Delteq will not fix it.
In fact, the Delteq is MORE dependent on a good optical section in the Opti-Spark.
I've been using the Delteq for over a year and I am extremely pleased with it.
You may notice a small increase in cranking time when starting -- this is normal.
