Old vs. New Evaporator w/pics
Almost done Thread w/pics

Well, I just finished enough to start the car. I still have to put a frame brace bolt in, a fuel line bolt, and remount the wheel well liner.

So in the end the car this time around got....

New Evaporator
New Evaporator Seal
New Accumulator
New Blower Motor
New Washer Fluid Pump (Just for good measure while I was in there)

WOW what a difference in air-flow! Before the car felt like it was an asthma patient weezing to blow air at you. Now it feels just as good as any other new car does today. This was well worth all of the aggravation.

Now I just have to go get the AC recharged and see how well it cools down. I'm almost looking forward to winter to see how well it defrosts now, it used to take a while.

What happened to the old evap? Did it pop?

I lost my charge in 2 months and I'm hoping the condensor or evap isn't shot, I bought all new parts except those.

What did you use to putty up the holes in the firewall housing?

Take a look at the 2nd link and you'll get to see how nasty it got. It was clogged beyond all belief. It looked like it may have been leaking, but the system did hold a charge so who knows. I replaced it for peace of mind instead of just trying to clean it out.

Window Ribbon Sealer from Autozone at the suggestion of SunCR. Worked just as good if not better than the original goop GM used.

I just had a vacuum pulled on the system and the R134a charge put in. We got 34.5* (F) at the vents sitting in the garage with no airflow over the condensor. The ride home was quite icey with the new airflow.

I want to tear mine apart this weekend to clean out the evap, I guess that can't be too hard. I'll fix my washer pump while I'm in there.

I have plenty of R12, some new hoses, a new compressor, accumulator.

The car has zero psi in it 2 months after working great.

I'm thinking I should get it leak tested first, make sure the evap and cond are ok before putting in these other new parts.

I have access to a vacuum pump, so I guess I can do the charging myself...
