Default Car quit... wtf???

Got off work today and when i tried to leave it wouldn't start. When you turn the key nothing happens (much like the starter died). Still getting 12.6v, and its getting fuel. I cleaned the contacts on the key but that still didn't help. After waiting about 45 mins the stupid thing starts but runs very rough and stalling out. Does this sound like an opti problem, starter related or something else? I'm too ticked to think straight right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks

Check the connections at the battery and starter. Is the SES light on? The rough running and rich exhaust could be caused by one of many things.

Bat terminals are good as well as the starter. I get no trouble codes. Something tells me that it could be the vats since it wouldn't even turn over. But If it was the vats that wouldn't explain the running rough. The car has been running extremely well up till today. ???

Does it run rough cold and hot? First thing I can think of is the CTS sensor, but it usually throws a code. May also be O2 sensor(s). How many miles on the motor/O2 sensors?

Mine did this same exact thing, If I did a rapid on off on off on off, the car would turn over then the ASR light came on. Ultimately the ECM was replaced problem solved. I thought it was my VATS as well.......very rough, wouldn't stay started......it was a nightmare. I was 250 miles from home when it happened and got there in limphome mode........was very lucky.
