high idle problem

Default high idle problem

Hey guys, my 90 has a really high idle problem it sometimes idles between 1500 to about 2200. Im going to test the tps tomorow with a voltmeter what else should I test.

You can check the timing, tps, IAC and for vacuum leaks.

When's the last time you cleaned your throttle body, too? Check the TechTips section of this Forum. There's a really good article on how to do this and reset your base idle at the same time.

Once you've eliminated vacuum leaks, a good TB cleaning really mellows out your base idle, improves throttle response and picks up fuel economy a tad, too.

I agree with the fellows above. I would go ahead and clean the TB and IAC and follow the steps HERE to set base idle. Now remember the desired idle is burned into the ECM. It would be good to also check/reset timing to 6* BTDC with EST disconnected.

With a little wear on the body, the stock spring does not always bring the throttle cable all the way down to idle. If that is your problem, a cheap fix is to add another spring to bring it down. I got a generic coil spring from an auto parts store and bent the ends to fit between the bracket and end of cable.
