Default 88 differential additives and lube

greetings,

i have changed the diff oil in a previously owned 81 vette and it wasn't that bad although, the drain plug was a bit high in the housing.

in my 88, i took a peek a few weeks ago and it appears it is even higher and almost inaccessible!...this one is gonna be tough!

at any rate, as far as the gm additive for the differential goes, is there a comparable additive as that of gm's additive for the rear-end differential that i could use? local distributors like pep-boys, advance auto parts, auto zone?........thanks.

use a suction gun with some clear plastic tubing.
You will need to get a diameter that will slide between the splines or you will suck very little fluid out.
Yes you can buy aftermarket limited slip or posi-traction differential additive at mahor autoparts shops.
two 4 oz bottles of the GM product is the recommended quantity by Gordon Killibrew despite the manual saying only one.

......thanks for the reply. i have done this before with clear tubing and a "mighty-vac" on my 81 and it worked well as the plug was a bit more accessible. i have no idea what splines you are referring to as the housing has a drain/access plug, however located extremely high on the housing. do you have an idea as to the oil capacity? (i am too lazy to break out the manual this morning! )
