This was happening for a while but had gone away. Now the problem has occurred again. As I'm accelerating from a stop, under medium throttle the car all of the sudden studders as if it's not firing right. Give it some more throttle and it recovers. It usually happens in first or second gear and only under medium throttle (1/2-3/4).
My thoughts are:
Fuel pump going bad
Clogged fuel filter
Throttle position sensor needs adjustment
ignition problem?
timing needs adjustment
Anyone have this problem or know of this problem? Am I headed in the right direction with any of the above ideas? Thanks for the help.
If the fuel filter has not been changed in while, try that. Also cleaning the TB/IAC is a good suggestion. The fuel pump usually fails when the demand is most, but still a possibllity. Also check the TPS voltage.
Being lazy and not having a ton of time, I go for the easiest first. Try a can of SeaFoam and follow the directions. If that doesn't work, change the fuel filter and go from there.
Fuel is easily checked. Duct tape a pressure guage to the window and watch it when the car has a fit. If the pressure drops, you will confirm a pump, filter, or collapses sock type of problem. If the guage stays rock solid, I would troubleshoot ignition next. When they freak out under load, it is usually ignition, followed by fuel.

This would be a easy first step. Kind of ,to me, sounds like your not receiving the air or sticky throttle when accelerating from a stop. Stumble.
I'll try cleaning the TB/IAC although I did that about 10k miles ago. I just changed the oil and don't want to do the seafoam until I need to change it again. I do need to put a set of sparkplugs in. If it is ignition, could it be just plugs or would there be something else?
Yes, what I ment is carbon build up. How long/miles have the plugs been in there. They will last a long time. You can pull a few to take a look and regap all 8 if they are not worn too much. Also a faulty MAF reading can cause this. Look at the hot wires for signs of trash. If any codes are stored start there first.
Plugs are AC's possibly even origional. The car has 84k miles on it. The pedal doesn't feel sticky at all so I really don't think it's the TB.
When it happens, it feel like it's being starved for fuel, but I'm just not sure. I need to try the pressure guage test, although it doesn't always do it so I never know when it's going to happen. When I try to replicate the take off to recreate the occurance, it doesn't do it. I dunno??

If ignition - sounds like ignition module. Basically that is how mine went - stumble when I would get on it to enter highway speed.
How would I determine if it is the ignition module? Guess now, I could get one of those high power ones from Ecklers eh?
You can have it tested a Autozone for free. Take the ignition module out of the distrubitor and take it to the zone and have them run a 10 cycle test to get it hot (usually when they fail).
