LT1 vs. L98 power question

LT1 vs. L98 power question
While looking for a new Vette a few months ago I was debating on a 91 or 92. I found a good deal on a stock 92 auto so I went with that.
I wanted a car that was quick and would kick foot from light to light. I like that feel of the torque from the L98 that throws you back in your seat. Not to start a flame war but I think it's safe to say the L98 is quicker in a short distance but the LT1 is faster in the long run- right?
What do I need to do to my car without spending huge bucks to get it to get out of the gate a little quicker?
Gears? What would something like that cost? And would I want to jump right to that or add a few other things first?
Sorry for sounding so ignorant :bb I read posts all day about 'what mods do I get' but I really want to have some work done over the winter and I am looking for more power off the line.
I don't plan to take it to a track and do any 1/4 mile runs or anything but I think it's the kid in me that doesn't want a 17 year old in a ricer pull up next to me at a stop light and have a chance.
