Your oil; after major motor work or any motor work for that matter if you're **** like me.
When I finished my head cam work I filled it up with some regular 5-30 oil because it would just be changed quickly anyway. Gets rid of the assembly lube and any other crap that might have gotten into the oil pan or any other contaminants that might have found their way into the life blood.
Shortly after I decided everything was cool, about 100 to 200 miles I changed back to Mobile 1 Synthetic 5-30
I wonder if I should do it again, the oil I used at the initial start up was still clean when it came out. So now with the regular synthetic back in it should be as clean as it's going to get right?
I flush the engine every oil change, believe it or not.
The way I look at it:
1. Engine flush is relatively inexpensive
2. I'm changing the oil anyway
3. Easy procedure to follow:
Pour the bottle of engine flush into the engine
Start engine and let run for 15 minutes (under no load!)
Turn off engine, and drain used oil.
Fill crankcase with your favourite motor oil.
I've found that since the synthetic's oil been used in the engine since day one, it stays remarkably clean by nature. That M-1 packs a heckuva detergent package!
