I thought a easy home project would be to change the trans fluid and filter. 96 vert auto trans. Drained fluid, removed old filter and now I cannot get the old filter seal out. Any help or suggestions please.
You can CAREFULLY pry it out with a screwdriver. Do not slip and scratch the bore though. I use a pair of snap ring pliers. Stick them in the center of the o-ring, spread them open, grab the inside of it, and pull out while wiggling it.
This thing is in very tight. Whey you say use a screwdriver, how?
Use the smallest screwdriver you have. Carefully and slowly wedge it between the bore and the seal and pry against the bore inboard toward the center. That way the chances of scratching the bore are reduced. Once you pry it away a little, use needle nose plyiers to grab it and pull it out.
New filter on, gasket in place, pan back on and bolts torqued. I will refill the tranny in the morning, put the cross brace (vert) back on than test out. Thanks again for your help.
