Default A Pillar Weatherstrip Replacement

Has anybody had to replace the thin piece of rubber that is between the back side of the A-pillar weatherstrip retainer and the window frame? If so, what did you use for replacement?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have no idea with piece of rubber you are talking about... however, I have a guess, and if I am right, it's part of the glass install.

It's the "windshield gasket" which is installed when the windshield gets replaced. The GM windshield gasket is highly recommended as cheaper aftermarket gaskets don't seal well.

After taking off the A-Pillar (Header) weatherstrip and removing the track, held in place by screws, which the weatherstrip sits in (glued to) there is a thin peice of rubber or foam-backed rubber underneath it.

Sounds like it's just dried RTV Silicone or rubber strips applied to the back side of the weatherstrip retainer from the factory.

Just scrape it off and re-apply new RTV Silicone to the surfaces.

If when you took off the retainer the weatherstrip was torn, you most likely will be able to find it from a glass shop. You will have to find one that does side glass along with windshields as they seldomly take off that retainer to replace a windshield. I've been lucky with the few I've done, and by taking you time you can usually get it off without tearing it.
