engine is running 240* in stop and go.. I'm wondering if this is from the looser converter (vigilante) the stroker motor or the fact that the front of the radiator is 20% covered with JUNK (leaves etc..etc..) between the condensor and the radiator.. runnin water wetter and all already and already have the 160* thermostat in and the fans reprogrammed to come on around 196*..
obviously all the above are contributing.. but whats a corvette owner in this situation to do?? I doubt cleaning the radiator is going to lower temps 40*
I know the drill about cleaning the radiator (corvette owner for 10 years) but every time i do it, it only seems to lower the temps about 10-15*.. since i'm at 240* on a 88* day losing 15* only puts me at 225.. which still seems high..
I've never heard anyone get 40* out of that and I was wondering what the next step was.. I guess vaders link kinda answered it.. upgraded radiator and water pump.. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ damit.

Water pumps don't degrade in efficiency like a fuel pump can. As long as the belt can turn the pulley at the proper speed, the impeller attached, is pumping coolant. How long has it been since the cooling system has had a GOOD cleaning? If it had been neglected for a while, it may pay to take the rad to a radiator shop for flow testing and a professional cleaning.
had the radiator disassembled, new side tanks put on, rodded and dipped in 2002..
I cleaned the radiator today and took a bunch of junk out.. coolant temp sitting in my driveway, in park with the A/C set at 65* hit 230 and was climbing about 2* every 4min. I even cleaned the condenser (what i could get at without taking it out) - ambient air tempature is 77* and its pretty dam humid.. . Both fans are working, coolant is full and clean.. I'm wondering if I have to much base timing at idle and just off idle..
I'm getting good flow up at the resevoir and the pump/opti/wires and plugs are less than 2 years old.. the car has behaved like this for the last two years around august and I'm sick of it.. I think the new tranny has exasserbated the issue (higher stall TC) or maybe i'm just sensitive to it now that i just put it in..do they sell a bigger radiator for these cars? it seems airflow is my problem because at highway speeds i'm good to go.. just putzin' around town and stop light bumper to bumper i havew issues.. if i turn to A/C off the car comes back down gradually.
F#$%#FDDIN' thing... if it aint one thing its another... its sure dam lucky I love C4 (and all) corvettes
