I just purchased a '92 six speed with 62,000 miles. The car ran fine until a few weeks ago.
The last few trips after I shut the car off, it will not start back. It has stranded me three times. Eventually the car will start back. Sometimes in fifteen minutes, sometimes it takes hours. Once the car starts ,the security light will flash in tandem with SYS on the speedometer. At this time the speedometer works, but the rest of the gauges seem frozen. Even the gas gauge does not work. The ASR light comes on as well. When the car starts normal, everything is fine. I have had the car into a dealer as well as a independent shop. The dealer found nothing wrong, The shop replaced the battery.
This is my first Corvette and any help would be appreciated.
What do you mean that the car won't start back up? Do you mean that the starter motor won't crank the engine, or that it cranks but the engine won't catch and run? You need to better describe your problem.
Just got back from vacation. The starter engages, the engine will not catch and run. It will sputter but never catch hold. My concern is the flashing security light as well as SYS, when it does finally start. The car runs great once it starts. But if those two lights are flashing when I turn it off, it will not restart for a period of time. Very frustrating.
Search for other threads with ECM and ECM communication.
When the security and SYS lights flash it means the serial communication with the ECM is having problems. When this happens, the ecm doesn't pulse the fuel injectors when you attempt to start. The engine may strart and run for an instant then die. I'm hoping mine will be fixed by cleaning the grounds to the engine block, above the oil filter. Keep us posted and I'll do the same.
