Default Lower Shift boot

Anyone know of any easier way to get the lower shift boot on a 1996? The side on the drivers side has no room for you to get to other than removing the console. Anyone know any little secrets before I remove the console ? When I say console i'me refering to the side where the carpet is attached to. I have everything else removed. Sometimes I wonder what GM was thinking when I see stuff like this. If they would have moved it a 1/4 inch you could put the boot on easily on but somehow they like to have there fun.Now I could try and fit something in there to squeeze it on but since its brand new I just hate the thought of taking the chance tearing it. Thanx....G

I don't think you can get to it without removing the center console (around the shifter)

I got my shifter boot off and back on with having to take the driver's side of the console off. It just takes a litte coercing with a screwdriver and needlenose pliers from the rear. It can be done...
