Hey, everything on my car is stock and I plan on keeping it that way for a couple years but I really need a better sound. My stock mufflers are toooooo quiet. I'm pretty sure I want the Borla Mufflers with the LT1 tips(just like the stainless look) and they are affordable for me. Will this make my vette sound throatery? Can't afford the full exhaust. Mufflers I can do. Are they worth it? Thanks to all.

The teacher needs an english lesson. throatier? more throaty?
Anywho, im with you. I cant justify spending the the 1k+ on the full system, I only want the sound... at least for now. Im interested in the responses to this one.

The teacher has been on vacation and had a couple cold ones. I will proof read next time.
My car had Borla mufflers on stock exhaust when I got it. OK around town as long as you don't want to talk to your passenger or hear the radio. Horrible noise on the highway.
Just a question for Vic and 90Z who had/have the Borla mufflers: you ARE talking about just the end mufflers, right? Not the entire, catback system as being the resonating source???
Reason I ask is because on another V8 car, I did have just Borla mufflers at the/under the rear bumper, and they were fine---mellow, slight sound at idle, no resonance at any speed/rpm, nicer sound at part and wide open throttle.
Dynomax make an LT1 replica complete with LT1 tip that looks factory. They flow very well and have a good tone to them. Interior clips of my 90. Not an LT1, but you get the idea. Mine are a bit louder inside due to the 3" pipes. Not LT1 replicas, but standard dynomax (same internals)

What works on another car is not relevant for what works on an LT1 C4.
Do a search for "borla" or "resonance" or "exhaust" you will find tons of information.

Yes, he just has the mufflers. On a sidenote I had the Borla Stinger system on my 90 and I loved the sound. There was no resonance at all. Of course Borla doesn't make that one for the 92-96 cars.

Thanks for the info. I know all about Borla resonance; I've had several different systems of theirs. The Borla resonance I've read about, however, regarding the C4 has usually been about the catbback system. And that's why I asked the question re just the mufflers, the experience which I had having been favorable.
Recommended by other forum members, I had a shop cut the mufflers out and add straight pipes and weld the LT1 tips back on. The best $150.00 I ever spent on this car.
I had borla mufflers installed on my exhaust with a rear 'X-Pipe'.
They sound GREAT at even low throttle, little rumbly but when you get on them.. whoa.. Nowhere near the loudness of my '85 with open targas and headers, but i was going for the slight rumble but yet controlled roar at WOT. Not annoyingly loud at all. I have a video of it if you want at the dyno on how she sounds.. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...26073572820064
I have an automatic with 3.45 gears so resonance is very minimal as around 1800-2100rpms it resonates at low throttle. I am rarely at that rpm, so it's perfect.
You could buy a set of Flowmaster 40 series and just have your stock LT1 tips welded on. The 40's are loud and have a throaty idle. If those are too much for ya 50 series. You don't have to spend $400.00 on mufflers so you still have LT1 tips. I have the 40 series with headers and it sounds awesome. It drones inside the car 1200-1800 rpm. with the 40 series.
