I was in the market for a while for aftermarket wheels, but a guy here convinced me otherwise, and I had my wheels professionally polished. The only
reason I didn't get them chromed is a) it can flake off, and b) I like the look of polished vs. chromed ( I think it has a deeper, darker luster). It only set me back $600, and I only polish them quickly every few months. An alternative for anyone who likes the look of the factory wheels but wishes they were a little more 'showy'; They even painted the windows to match the lower half of the car.
I plan on doing this to my 90. I talked with a man at a all vette auto-x in Oklahoma City that had an 89 and his wheels were polished. He said he got them done in OKC by a place called Mr. Buffer and was charged $50 a wheel. They look like chrome. I live about 2.5 hours away but it is worth the trip for the price and the look.
50 dollars a wheel is good... I guess I had to pay more due to all of this overhead in CALIFORNIA... The only thing I hate is when you take your car in for any work, it is a GIVEN the mechs will scratch them up a little...
:mad
Also, one other disadvantage. If you take the car through an auto-wash, they will look bad. The polished wheels do not like a lot of soaps. A very mild auto soap works good- just get them wet, soap them, rinse them, and dry them off FAST.
If you don't like to polish things, that is another negative. I don't mind getting down and dirty with them though. They won't look good without
maintenance- it is afterall unprotected metal.
Hope you like it. I get a lot of comments on them, even from vetterans.
