cooling...that seems to be one of the forums biggest topics....start with pulling your shroud off and cleaning your radiator and all areas around it....then get a new themostat and chip....these items are inexpensive and make a world of differance...specialy in high traffic areas. then basicaly fix all Vette bugs....browse the forum to see what they are...then after that go performance...I to have an 86 and have had a few bugs...

headlight dont go up , digital cluster failed , power window went out , oil sending unit craped and leaked oil everywhere...valve cover screws loose and leaking , starter failed.......seems like alot...but the most expensive is the cluster. And I havent even drove it but 10 miles...

IF you run the 160 thermo with out the chip, your computer will probably never leave open loop mode (warm up mode). The stock chip/computer will think the engine is warming up using default values, and will not begin close loop (sensor reading) ever. That is why you have to do the chip with the thermo. The chip is tailored to bring the computer out of open loop sooner to work with the lower operating temp of the vehicle.

That is what I was told by the local vette shop here.

Does anyone know when the computer will go from open to close loop operation with a factory chip?
