Default Headers without the emmisions tubes?

I really want headers, but I am confused about the emmisions tubes. I have read that you can run the air pump delete kit and still pass emmisions. I think that air pump is directly related to the emmisions tubes on the stock manifolds, right?

If I were to order headers without the tubes, what else do I need to do? I doubt I would install it myself, but I don't want to sound like an idiot when I show up at the exhaust shop...

I am thinking of the Hedman headers, and having the local exhaust shop fab me up a custom stuff all the way back with some nice looking tips (but leave the cat or is it cats?). I still want to be able to pass smog....

Thanks.

Ryan

a lot depends on where you live.

if you only have sniff tests, you should pass a-ok, as long as the cat is in good working order.

if you live in CA, you're screwed. Same with NY and a few other NE states, I don't remember which.

AIR is pumping air into those tubes at startup, so you would need to go ahead and delete the pump. That is not a big deal, but you need to keep the EGR and most headers that have no AIR hookups dont have that either, and dont have a spot for the O2 sensor. Longtubes will delete the precats, and then you can do whatever with the main cat.

You will then need to have an O2 bung welded in, to keep the O2 in roughly the same spot on the drivers' side. You cant run the car without it, it controls your gas mileage and general running. The EGR tube from the intake manifold to the header needs to be put back in if you pick a header without it, or you can delete it as well, but you will need a chip made to remove the Code 32.

Is there a power advantage either way?
