im using home made cables and home made interface...two transistor style. i have pins 1,4, 6 jumpered and pins 7 and 8 jumpered, 9 blank.
this is on a 94, and the instructions i received say 9 on aldl is info, 16 is 12v and 4 is ground, it said to ground pin 4 to 5 on the aldl...sound right? so i have 4 jumpered to 5 and going back to the interface as the ground.
Odds are about 99% that the problem is in your homemade cable.

What does this refer to? Pins on what? The only thing I can figure that it might be is the RS232 port, and you only need to be using the two signal pins plus ground there. That's pins 2, 3, and 5 on a DB9.

You don't need to connect 4 and 5. You just need 9 (signal) and 4 (ground)
the pins i was refering to are the rs-232 pins, sorry for not making that clear.
what could be wrong with my cable? its no different than any other cable, cept the fact that it doesnt have a platic connector, it ues pins just like any other cable...
ill disconnect the jumpers and give it a try
as for the 12v and ground where do i get those?
tried it without the jumpers, same thing....
