I went looking for an ECM for my '92 today. Both Autozone and Oreilly's suppliers were out of stock. Both locations as well as Napa offered a remove and rebuild service. This service was around $250. No one could tell me how long it would take to get it back. Of course, the local dealer had a reman for over $400. Has anyone tried the rebuild service or any suggestions as to where to buy an ECM??? I hate to pay the dealership price.
My ecm went out a couple weeks ago. I got a rebuilt unit from Advance auto parts. They had one on the shelf and it was only about $80. Identical to old unit installed and works fine. Best of all, comes with lifetime warranty. Good luck Rich
As I stated on a previous thread, the '92 and '93 ECMs are the only ones that are speed density and works with the Opti-Spark on the LT1.
You probably can find many L98 ECMs, but I hear the '92 and '93 ECM is getting hard to find.
Tom,
You are correct about the ECM for '92's getting hard to find. I was on the phone until 9 last night trying to locate one. No one has one in stock. Only the remove and repair service is offered. I had to break down and buy one from the dealership. Only $314.00.
The ECM from sothpaw came in yesterday and I just got back from the installation and test drive. It started fine every time and idles great now so it looks like that solved our problems, no codes or SYS light either and we took out drivingfor a good hour.
