Default Ground Strap Access

I was checking my grounds (above the oil filter) and I find my strap has a cheesy crimped on connector. You know, the kind with the yellow plastic cover. Anyway, I gave the strap a slight tug and the damn thing pulled right out. I can't even see the other end of this braided strap. I've read that it attaches to the frame rail but there is too much stuff in the area. What is the best way to get to this? I want to either replace the strap or solder a lug termination. Either solution requires removal. Can I gain access by removing the battery?

Thanks in advance!!

my 85 braided ground strap frame end goes into what i can best call a window with a as i remember either a 3/8 or 10mm bolt that is threaded up into the frame. Completly verticle up from bottom of frame rail.

CCFord, it's always best to state the year, and you should fill out your profile. That said, the braided strap on my 87 comes from the back of the cyclinder head drivers side, actually a cluster of grounds attach there, then it goes down to the frame rail next to the battery. Getting to the ground strap at the cyclinder head is a friggin headache at best, and it's recommended to remove the wiper motor for access.

Make absolute certain that you repair that ground before driving it, otherwise it will take the next best ground which is through your transmission, up the shifter cable, to the shifter which is bolted to chasis ground. Sounds good until there is an arc inside the cable, bonding the cable to the tube that it slides in and out of, then you get to find out how much the dealer gets for a brand new shifter cable. You think finding the other end of the ground is bad, wait til ya gotta replace the shifter cable.

Ok, actually if your vette is mostly stock, then there should be 2 wires coming from the negative battery terminal, one big one goes to engine ground and a small one going to chasis ground.
