I wanna delete the vats outta the computer ,can this be done ,can the computer be sent out,or does the computer have to be with the car if it can be done,if not gonna go the bakerelectronix .com way,I called corvetteparamedics in NJ.& the guy was tryin to play dumb & soak me for 5-600

.......why don't ya do what i did?....find the resistance of your key and buy a resistor of same value.....then, with a small toggle switch take the two wires at the steering column and get a couple of "line taps" and tie in the switch and the resistors so that in one position you will have full vats protection and in the other position, you will have your vats bypassed with the resistor. then, any non-pellet spare key for your car will work. this way when you park in unfamiliar places, you can turn the vats "on" for additional protection when needed......total cost about $5.00........

I used this VATS bypass kit on my '86 and it works like a charm. All you need to know is the resistor value (1 to 15) of your system which can be obtained by bringing one of your ignition keys to a GM dealership. Pretty cheap too! BTW, you know that your car will be vulnerable to theft using this bypass.

..he can take an ohm meter and measure the resistance of the pellet (if he knows how) , cross reference the reading and pick up a pack of resistors at radio shack or similar for about $2.00......

Without knowing what year your car is, it is hard to say. What year is it? Most likely the answers are yes it can be done, and no the computer doesn't have to be with the car when done. You most likely will just receive a new memcal in the mail if you are running a stock program now.
I bought my 87 from someone that had a 90 on order. Later the next year they came out of work to find their 90's driver window busted out and the steering column broken apart, but the 90 vette hadn't moved. 90% of thefts are done this way and if you bypass your VATS, then you will come out of work and your vette will be GONE! It is a mistake to bypass VATS IMHO !!! You can unplug the 2 pin connector from the 2 wires out of the steering column (remove the driver hush panel above the drivers feet) and measure your pellet with a digital ohmeter (much more accurate than an analog ohmeter) and buy a 5 pack of 1/4 watt 5% resistors from Radio Shack the nearest value to your pellet and find one that is closest to your pellet and within the values from the post above and clip it onto the 2 pin socket from the wiring harness. Now you are a candidate for an easy theft !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

........ , he can put it on a switch if he is having some vats starting problems due to a bad key, etc., and still be protected (only if he switches the key to the "vats on" position as i stated in previous post.......

It's a case by case scenario if you want to bypass the VATS. If I lived in a high crime area I probably would just fix the reader contacts in the cylinder and then also check the integrity of the wires connectors or whatever else there is that could misread the key.
Where I live, I let all my keys in all my cars outside all night long. The only creatures that might steal it are Bears, Deer, Skunks, Porcupines, and the occasional Raccoon, last time I checked, they don't know how to drive anyway.

Add a switch? Why don't you just replace the ign tumbler? Everytime you have a switch fail are you going to have yet another switch swinging back and forth under the dash? If your left headlight burns out do you epoxy a flashlight onto the hood? Keep your car in good repair !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the chip, did all the usual stuff,my resistance is 9.50,#14 key although my old key is reading 8.96,what I did was run a wire across the key chip on both keys& hold it in place with a plastic clamp, the car turns over but wont start(fire the injectors)so there is another problem, lost use of the car for 4 months, not worried in the least if the car gets stolen,so no preachin.
gonna check if Im gettin spark,if so then it has to be the injectors not firing, I hear the fuel pump go on& I have pressure in the lines(gauge hooked up),seems like beyond the key&tumbler ,mostly every1 gets lost as far as fixin this type of problem
If you have spark then get a noid light for the injectors to verify they are pulsing while cranking. Being a batch fire system (i'm guessing here since you still haven't told us the year of your car), the injector drivers could have blown in the ECM causing none of them to fire. This is fixed by replacing the ECM (~$100).
scorp, its an 88,just looked into the bakerelectronix.com (some1 here mentioned this )fix as a last resort ,but Im gonna wait ,they got carlisle show this weekend here in pa. ,yeh, I have an inj. tester Ill try to check & make sure, the usual process of elimination,ps. scorp you been here a long time ,been reading your posts thru the years.

....ohhh here we go! .......that comment is the pinnacle of ignorance. he stated that he wanted to get rid of the vats due to problems, i suggested that he NOT do that but to install a switch hidden somewhere that he would be able to start his car whenever he wanted......i am sure that he has though of a permanent fix but, i merely gave him an alternative!...nobody knows if it is the tumbler or the key so, my suggestion is reasonable and would help deter the theft of the car (if he selected the vats!)...see post 8
