Hi, I'm a new user and vette owner. I bought my 88 about a month ago and have been fixing the minor problems. Yesterday I thought I'd reattach the lever to the switch that activates the rear heigth of the passenger seat. The switch had a broken plastic hinge? that I was able to find in a wrecking yard. It was easy removing it in the wrecking yard because the poor car's guts were splayed out everywhere. But getting to the switch in my car is another story altogether. I've unscrewed the console plate, but the two screws are impossible to get a screwdriver on. I managed to unscrew it by using a "Z" shaped screwdriver, but now I can't get it back on. Is it possible to raise the whole unit which includes the glove compartment so I can access the switch? If I can figure it out, here's a picture of the area I'm talking about. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, I'm so frustrated I'm starting to make up swear words because I wore the others out!
OOPS! I mistyped the picture name and I forgot to mention the two screws hold a bracket that keeps the seat switch assembly from falling out.
Here's that picture:
OK, I finally got it put back together with a lot of determination and a few choice words. It turns out the switch only makes the back of the seat go up and not down! My seat is currently in the "full upright and locked position". My wife thinks it's great because she can finally see over the hood. Unfortunately, when anybody over 5'4" sits in there their head sticks out the top. Is there anyway to manually lower the rear of the seat? The switch obviously isn't doing the trick.
If you have the lumbar bladders, then you have the power sports seats. Same as I had on my 88 Z51 coupe. You should be able to trouble shoot the seat control motors using an external 12 volt DC power source. If the motor doesn't reverse then the motor is defective, If the motor reverses and the seat doesn't lower the it's back to the switch.
