I am going to pull my trans to swap convertors. WHat is the correct procedure for removing the trans ? I will be doing it on the floor with a trans jack. I read a tech tip on here and the guy pulled the convertors and he pulled
the spark plugs and just about everything else. I think he pulled the plugs to make turning the flexplate easier but is that really necessary ?
Pulling plugs on a LT1 sucks. Also what about the convertors ? I helped pull a trans once and it was pretty straight forward it wasn't in a Corvette and as I've learned with these cars of ours nothing is simple with them.

The drivers side is the hardest, imho. I used a swivel with a 14mm socket ont he end to get to the second bolt on the bottom. The top bolts arent easy, but slowly manageable with wrenches.
Take pics, andnotes for others to follow.
The converter is just three bolts to the flexplate. I dont know why the plugs were taken out, cause we all are as strong as AROLD!! Seriously it will make things easier, or get a flexplate wrench.
I'll get a flywheel/flexplate turner. Lisle makes one. What about the catalytic convertors ?
Once the converter is unbolted, and you have the tranny out, it just pulls out. When you put it back in the transmission, it will go in, then you slowly turn it till it goes in further, which is it going into the pump.
On my 87, I usually drop the exhaust. I think you must drop the exhaust. I built a trans for stingraymarc and about shLt when he told me his mechanic chopped a chunk out of the transmission case to get it around the cat. Trans removal on a c4 is not too bad to do. The c beam is the only pissy part. Be sure to torque the bolts that attach the c beam when done. If overtight, it can crack the tail housing of the trans or crack the snout on the rear. If memory serves, 40 ft lbs on the front bolts and 65 on the rear. It is critical that the tv cable be readjusted before it leaves the driveway, or you will roach the trans.

The TV cable ? I think I might just leave this job for someone who knows what they are doing. I'm going to call around and get some prices.
TV cable adjustment is a piece of cake. Takes 1 minute to do. Don't let this part scare you. In my area, $400 to R&R a converter is typical.
Edit: 92 and 93 are a bit complicated to adjust due to the asr. Consult the helms if you do it.

I need to buy the helms manual huh So far I've managed to get along without it. You scared me with the destroying the trans part I don't know what the TV cable is yet. I can pull the trans
might take me awhile but I'll get the thing out. So who knows how to adjust the TV cable on 93 ? I would have thought if I just disconnected
the thing and left it alone I could just put it back on.
That is true. If you un hook it from the trans, rather than at the throttle linkage, you should be ok.
Most trans problems that are not the result of simply old age and wear, are tv related. Even fresh rebuilds that fail prematurely are often tracedc back to improper tv cable adjustment. Some shops fail to give it the respect it deserves

I have a perfect solution for this whole problem, you should move to Cleveland Call me at work today if you can so we can get that convertor ordered. Thanks !!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the help. I got the basic info on how to pull the trans now. I have a couple of questions about bolt sizes etc though. I'll start a new thread for that one. Pete K is the man !! Thanks
