I just got my 96 red corvette back home. Here's the story... My wife took the vette to the local dealer to have the oil changed. As she drove out the car began to miss real bad. She drove it back to the dealer where they checked it out and found cylinders 3 & 4 were the ones missing. I told her to take it home (not far). Then from your advise I had a mechanic change the plugs and wires, still missing. I took it to another corvette mechanic, he said he couldn't work on it because of the high performance modifications (Blower, High Spark ignition, computer modifications... etc.). So I took it to a high performance shop, down town Phoenix (B & R). They found the trouble right away, over a pound of sugar in the gas tank! $4,500.00 later, flushed tank and lines, new fuel pump, new fuel injectors, new catalytic converter... etc, etc, etc., now it's back home, finally!
I change my own oil. Had jiffy lube do it once and they stripped out the threads in the oil pan on my truck once. Of coarse they deny it. It is just easier to do it home, i know it is done right.

Hate to hear things like this, glad you got a locking cap now. I'm not a fan of the dealer here, I've vowed to never take my car back to them. Hell, I took the wheels off today to get autox tires mounted cause I don't trust ANYONE with the car anymore. For oil, I do that myself....but if I'm in a pinch, I'll go to Express Oil so I can watch what they do and tell them what not to do. Have even taken my own oil to them.
Anyway, glad you saved the engine. Surprised you just didn't lose the cats for good.
Didn't they find out on Mythbusters sugar doesn't dissolve in gas? Furthermore it didn't really do anything but sit in there and maybe clog the pickup/pump first.
How would sugar cause a miss on only two cylinders?

I think you're making this up. Dealers don't do that kinda thing. You ARE kidding, right? c'mon, you can 'fess up, we won't bite.
And how would they find a pound of sugar--it'd be dissolved?
Sugar wont dissolve in the tank, wives tale
If anyone pured sugar in there that "found it right away" it was your speed shop. They charged $4500 and probably changed the Opti.
