I start my new job on Monday as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Borla Performance Industries. I have been reviewing all posts related to Borla, and from your comments see that I have a few areas to improve. I initially will see what I can do to put installation instructions in the box. Part of my employment contract says that they have to install a Borla system on my 86 Corvette. I will keep you updated on performance and noise as I will have a 60 mile one way commute, on both city streets and highway. I would appreciate any comments, complaints or suggestions. You can email me at richardw@borla.com or reply to this thread. I have gotten alot of help from forum members as I restore my 86...hopefully I will be able to give some info back. My background includes 8 years with Walker, and I was part of the DynoMax introduction team.
Thanks,
Ric Williams :chevy
Borla on a Corvette: The only thing bad about it is that at times it is too loud to even talk to a passenger. But it's a performance exhaust, what do you expect.
Borla on a first generation 300zx n/a: Absolutly perfect, and is complimented superbly by a set of headers :D It would be nice if the system went all the way back to the catylic converter instead of also having to buy the extra pipe.
Zero complaints. I have followed Borla since 1991 when they we're first put on a friends Mustang. I had them on my '86 GT and '90 GT now they're on the Vette. Good performance with a nice mellow cruise note..but WOT, LOOK OUT.
I would appreciate any comments, complaints or suggestions.
Hey Ric,
Sounds like a cool job!
My 2 cents:
LT1 rear section systems were really bad when I had one. They need to have a swivel coupling like the Dynomaxes have, the way the pipe is welded on you have no way to adjust the tips to be level without cutting and rewelding. The LT1 tips also buzzed on mine, the sheet steel that was welded onto the two pipes (crookedly) vibrated against the tailpipes. Also resonated horribly, but you probably can't do much with just mufflers to get around the problem. Just passing along my one experience. It would also be nice if the tech guys replied to email questions. Sounds like you've taken on a "challenge" ;) .
I agree with Jack about the quality. Both of my LT1 style tips had to be welded at installation as they were broken out of the box. For $500 I would expect better quality. I like the sound but youhave to talk loud for the passenger to hear you at highway speeds.
Yep just spent a better part of my sunday trying to fix the tips on my borla, the buzzing was driving me insane! I have also had numerous problems getting the tips straight. I think I am going to have to have the pipes welded. Sorry for the rant I have just been very disastisfied with my borla.
I bought Borla mufflers for my 1996 CE LT4 three years ago. The mufflers are fine--it's the tips that aren't. One of the the chrome tips (oblong) came apart at the spot welds about three months ago. The seams were again spot welded by a local muffler shop. While the seams appeared to line up again, the tip now vibrates making a loud tinny sound. The muffller shop wasn't interested in getting back into the repair as they would have to charge me more than it was worth without any guarantee. They suggested I notify Borla. I e-mailed Borla but have not yet had any reponse. Anyway, that's my tale of woe.
