my '91 will start fine in the morning, then after i get back from a drive it won't even turn over, i hear the solenoid click but no cranking, if i hook up a charger while trying to start it she fires right up twice in a row and then wont turn over again. I replaced the battery and starter yesterday and still it wont always start. the alternator seems to be working fine because the battery charges back up to 100% after running the car for a minute or so. any suggestions? im at a loss here
If you have a new starter, that eliminates the starter solenoid copper contact that switches current to the starter motor at the end of its stroke. Likewise a new battery. I doubt its your pellet because you got a click out of the old starter solenoid. Battery terminal connections must be bright and tight, this includes the cable lugs and the bolts. I would check the condition of the negative battery cable to the frame, it too must be bright and tight. Likewise the strap that goes from the frame ground up to the left rear head.
im thinking its the connection at the battery since i had an extra wire loop on the positive stud for awhile for a stereo. and when i connect the jumper to the batterry cables it starts fine.
