I have a '91 Coupe and it is time to put on new shocks.
I drive on back roads and Hiways, so the roads can be rough.
Any suggestions of what to use without giving up performance?
do u mean the koni sports that are adjustable? if so, any any how much?
The Koni yellow adjustables are $147 each from Tirerack. However, the Koni application guide doesn't show any front shocks for an '88 (I'm assuming that's what you have from your Forum name).
I had the FX3 adjustable garbage in mine. I replaced them with Monroe's when they went bad. I hate the monroe's, they aren't stiff enough. I plan to replace them soon with Bilsteins (which are one of the stiffest you can get)
Today I replaced the Bilsteins on my 88 with a set of KYB's that I bought for $140 delivered...per all of the recommendations here on the forum. Well, I really like them...nice firm ride yet not bone jarring. They seemed to make the car feel more "solid" too, if that makes sense. As Bogus said, can't be beat for the money...
I put Monroe's on last time around, now I'm at 125K miles and after a lot of time here on the forum I'm doing the $160 for 4 shocks at shockwarehouse.com deal. The Monroe's were fine though I'm no expert; after about 40k they're so squeaky it's embarrassing, and the ride when I hit a bit of a berm etc, not so good though if it was something other than a vette and the noise wasn't there, I'd stick with them, they've held up great. I'm getting the KYB's this week and will follow up.
I also have a 91 coupe and I bought a set of Z-51 Bilstiens, Not that the 91 came with them, but I had planned on lowering my 91 and they were recommended if your going to lower or race. I've since had HardMetalRocks talk me into a full set of HAL QA-1 12-way adjustables so I'm going to change gears and not install the Bilstiens and go the QA-1 route. I've seen them in the Summit catalog, which is where he bought them. According to HMR, he believes it was the best upgrade that he's done to his entire car. I think the best feature of them is that you can change your car's ride from smooth as a caddy to stiff as a brick in a matter of turning the dials on the shocks.
