I have a 95 with 65k miles on it with the Original shocks. I need new ones. I have been looking at a few. Are the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks really worth 179.99 ea.?I was thinking of the GTShocks VFR.. :seeya
Hello 95purple...
Vash i think did a comparison on these shocks first hand and posted
the results on here. I've got KYB on my 94 and i am dissapointed
with them. I'm going to the stock oem bilsteins :spam as soon as i get
some extra dough in my pocket.
And to be honest, i don't think the 179 shocks are worth it.
a guy here has them on his truck and bragging about them but it's
been a couple yrs and has to replace them cause they are wearing out.
I'd stick with oem it's cheaper and you'll be happier to save the
extra dough in the end.
check out vette brakes & products, i purchased their bilstein z51 shocks and solid sways for my 96 with 40K miles on it, and it was a NIGHT AND DAY difference, the body roll was all but eliminated, and the tide quality didnt suffer at all since i didnt touch the springs. i have base suspension.
Marc,
I believe the Bilstein shocks can be rebuilt too! (Is this Correct?). The Edelbrocks are unique with their design but, I can't see spending the $$ though. Save the money for something else.
I bought the MadVet house brand and am not remotely happy with them. They are Gabriel off brands, and for comparison I had SHOT and I mean SHOT OEM shocks and I didn't notice a difference after swapping them out, and I put on BRAND new tires at the same time. I paid around $120 for the shocks, but in retro, I wish I paid a little more and got the Bilsteins.
Just get some OEM Z51 shocks. I got them from Vette Brakes like the guy above too. The $179 are overkill for normal street use. Maybe if you cared alot about AutoX in stock class or something like that they would be useful. Save your money and just get some stock style stuff.
I just had the HAL adjustable's installed. The adjustment is easy, and the car rides great. The weight is transferred real well (nose lifting high) when set to the softest setting in the front.
I have adjustable Koni's and I am very happy with them. :D One benefit is that when they get older and softer you can adjust them to get firmer ( if you didn't have them set on the hardest from the beginning).
If you want to get real serious get shocks from Öhlins. The make shocks to all Roadracing bikes and a lot of roadracing cars as well. Kenny Brack uses them.
Ecklers is smoking crack; their price of $180 each for the Edelbrocks is price gouging at its best. Edelbrock's website recommends several different Internet vendors. When I checked their sites, I found the same shocks for about $70 each. (Still haven't convinced myself to buy them, though.)
I don't know how to post a flag, but I have mine flying in front of my house.
Are the bilstein shocks different for the base, Z51 & Z52 supensions? Most places I look only list the base & Z51. I know the base is softer and the Z51 stiff but is the Z52 a in betweener???

Oh, did I mention that Öhlins is Swedish?! :D
Is there a website about these shocks? Is there one for the HAL adjustables?
I'm with Cratzy! Installed Konis after stock Bilsteins made me think I was driving a caddy with 100Kmi. My car was all over the road with excessive bouncing and oscillations....even from day one. I hit a bumb and and five minutes later my car settles down. My ride sucked. Tried Edelbrocks, but on my lowerded car the shocks bottomed out (due to 1" of travel being desinged "out" of them by Edelbrock) and found myself with a beat to death busing and seal and leaking fluid all over the driveway (Edelbrock turns the shock upside down from factory orientation-no biggy until your seals leak)
Anyhow, I have a little over 1/2 a turn on my konis and would never even consider another brand now. The set was $550 or so (I forgot, but I got it from the tire rack) but after driving with them for three months now I would have paid $1000 for them after seeing how it cleaned up my ride. The ride it not harsh, and actually is more comfortable now than it was before because it bounces less. I drive almost 100mi a day in my vette so I need a good ride.
I talked with a few people who thought they knew what I wanted with custom valving, but the price is too much for a one chance gamble. The Konis were adjusted four times to find the setting i liked, but well worth the effort. Oh yeah, I need to mention that the rear shocks must be pulled from the car to adjust them....a minor annoyance but worth the price of adjustability alone.
Did have to fix one new rattle though.
