both the headlight panels on my 86 don't align quite right with the hood, they were like that when I bought the car, since then I've had both assemblies out to put new gears in the motors, I'm no bodyman but I can't see any kind of adjustment for this problem, I tried a few washers here and there but no luck, is there a procedure? if any one has a clue please let me know.
standing in front of the vehicle and looking down at the hood, the front of the panels are low. sorry I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet, guess I need help with that too.
If you look under the hood, there are some hex shaped stoppers that tell the motor to stop turning when they hit resistance. If you open the headlights and then look, you should be able to make the adjustments when they close. One stopper for each light. Make sure you make the adjustments when the light is open. A lil turn at a time will do the trick. It might take several open/closes to get the perfect look. Good luck! Post some pix when done!
Pull the headlamp cover, and you'll find four 10mm head bolts on the lid, loosen them and you should be able to align the lid. there are also frame bolts on the assembly that will align the lid frt to rear and side to side.

The headlight doors are not supposed to align perfect with the hood. The front lip should be slightly lower than the hood level and the rear slightly above.
Thanks everyone, with your info I'll try to get a little better alignment on the headlight fit, but I will keep in mind nothing is suppose to fit perfect on my vette.
Not to be argumentative scorp 508, but why wouldn't they align flush top, and bottom? I had a complete paint done on my car over the winter, and I disassembled everything before paint including, removing the headlight doors, and covers. Upon reassembly, although it took time, the headlight doors are flush with the hood, top, and bottom, along with the gap being similar all the way around. My friends at the bodyshop laughed, because I spent about an hour on each headlight getting it perfect. The stated they were glad they weren't paying me by the hour! Rich, click on My Corvette Pictures, there is a picture of my front end, double click to enlarge the picture. Look at the gap around each headlight, and also notice they are flush, top, and bottom.

Rich, I looked at your picture again, and it looks like it may be the two rubber stops, like Quiksilver458 stated above, and are adjustable. It looks like both lights are low on the leading edge, (closest to the bumper cover), and a little high in back. With the hood open, look for the stops, they will be on a threaded rod with a locknut. Rotate the headlight assemblies manually, and loosen the locknut, you will want to turn the stops clockwise so the assemblies rotate a little more to get the look you desire. Do you know any history on the car? I know you stated that it looked like that when you bought it. The reason why I ask, and don't get nervous, is because if it was hit in the front end, (LIGHTLY), parts may have been replaced, (hood), but, the headlight assemblies may have been salvageable.

1. To prevent extra airflow from entering the under hood area.
2. To prevent rock chips on the fragile edge of the headlight door.
I never heard that one, and neither have my two friends that have been doing body work, and paint, on these cars for 20 years, maybe we are in error..............
