Default [electrical] Turn signal problem

My left turn signal appears to be shorting out; it does not work with the headlights on and the green indicator light on the dash is lit up. If the headlights are off it operates as it should. The right signal works fine in both conditions.

Where do I even start looking for the problem. Thanks.

I had the same problem, it was a loose ground connection on the front signal lamp socket.

Could be just a bad bulb too. The dash light is comming on because it's feeding back due to a bad ground somewhere. Seen it a million times. Bad bulb, bad socket, or bad ground wire. jmo

I was actually hoping it was related to the control and not the light/socket in any way; I think I have to take the front end off to reach those things. I'll check the factory manual when I get home.

Always include the year vette you are asking help on!
Your symptoms are caused by a common ground shared by the turn signal and the headlight. The ground connection has resistance, so find it and clean the connection for a low resistance to ground.

Sorry, I'm a no0b.

BTW, everything worked fine on the way home today. Should I still look for a bad ground? Maybe just moisture or something?

Even worse than a bad ground is an intermittent bad ground. I would definetely find the ground for the headlight, which should also include the turn signal ground wire and remove the screw and clean the wire lugs, screw and frame hole. If you let it go, it will go bad when its 20 below zero and you don't want to be working on it then!

I have an odd issues too with mine... right signal on my 89.
no ticking sound, signal in dash stays solid in. The right front signal in the bumper is out (the front, not side signal). When I plug a new light in, it immediately shorts out and blows the light again and sometimes blows a fuse. So I just left the light burned out for a couple years

The left signal works fine.
