Default Melted headlight ****?

Turned the lights on last night, and only one came up.

Opened the hood, and looked at the Drivers side, and the manual adjusting **** was gone!

I could see the remnants from where it melted.

Gonna get a bone-yard motor, but is there anything else I should check?

What year car? I've seen the grooves inside get stripped from rotating them manually, but I've never seen one that experienced heat damage (unless there was an engine fire involved).

'89.

Replaced the bushings last year and it was fine. Dont drive it much at night, but the motor must have burnt in the last few days since the lights worked two days ago. Didnt see any other damage or signs of heat.

I cant imagine from the location anything else melting it but the motor itself. Nothing under the hood in that area looks any different.

Could turn the spindle with a channel lock, but it didnt look like it was doing much, but I didnt sit there and crank it for 15 minutes either.

Gonna take it apart this weekend and see what happened, I hope.

What if it were on all of the time and didn't open? Would produce those results. Shot in the dark (or light in the dark).

That was my guess.

Something caused it to be on for an extended period of time, and cooked it.

Well, I cant tell what happemned to the motor, but the entire thing is burnt to a crisp.

All the plastic parts inside are fused together.
It smells fried. And the grease has burnt off the plastic gears.

Guess I'm lucky it didnt cause a fire.

nice guess, very out of the box of ya. however i just dont see that happening. when it is down the light shines on the wheelwell, i dont see how something beside it and shielded from it could get damaged faster thatn the surrounding components
