i have an 88 with the intermittent wipers option. the "system" is very strange. what i get is that the wipers will run fine on the highest setting but, will take some time to "kick in and work properly" in the "intermittent" mode which is a sliding switch. sometimes the wipers will stop any place on the windshield for long periods of time when in "intermittent" mode. (no, there is no binding of the wiper arms or anything like that.).
while it could be a bad ground, loose or dirty contact on a switch, or the wiper motor itself, and before i start paging through the helms, is the "delay" done by the varying resistance of the switch or in the wiper motor?....best faulty ground location to start looking?.....thanks again!

There is an electronic module on the wiper motor and there is a park switch in the motor housing itself. These play together with the switch. I have a module that came on a new wiper motor. I had to replace it with the earlier type for my 87. I think the module fits 88. You can have it for the cost of postage if you want it.
The wiper control in the arm rest needs some contact spray cleaner sparingly applied to it. The switch and variable resistor get dirty and don't make reliable contact.

...thanks for the reply.....is the switch difficult to remove?.....do i have to remove the entire door panel as i never have had my door panels off?....(maybe i should get off my dead a$$ and look at the manual!
The metal plate the wiper control is on has a number of screws and when removed the plate comes off the door allowing access to the wiper control. Its easy as pie to get to.

......ya lost me........does the door panel have to come off to see or access the wiper switch......i know nothing about a plate or even if it is accessible with the door panel on.......thanks for the reply....
You can change the switch without removing the door panel.
On an 88 you can remove the black plastic trim piece that is under the inside door handle. You should be able to remove the screws that hold that in and the wiper switch is attached to the trim piece.
Let me know how you make out because my 88 is having the same problem.
Good Luck
