I have an 86 and the headlight motors were changed to electric. Whoever had it befor me rigged up a toggle switch to run them, prob. a bad idea. I recently changed the burned out motors and want to fully convert the system as it should have been. Does anyone know what relays, etc I need to do this?
I converted my 86 years back to the 88 and later motors..there is One control module you need for operation, then remove the former 3 style relays, and use the control module instead.
You may be able to get just the module with wiring kit and instructions.
Im not sure, youll have to ask the corvette suppliers if they sell that seprately.I bought my kit complete with the motors years back.So I had everything I needed to follow the instructions and plug n play.
I dont know from your post if someone used later motors and retained the stock 3 way relay set up.However, are you thinking of converting back to the original style set up? Im not sure what youre asking here.
how many wires coming out of the headlite motors??...if three, you can use older relay set-up or newer curent sensing module...if two, you must use the sensing module
Thanks for the input, I'll try to clarify my situation. The headlight motors were previously changed to 2-wire electric, the wiring was rigged to a toggle switch mounted above the fog light switch. It was completely bass-akwards. The motors burned to a crisp so I changed them (also 2 wire). Upon removing the instrament panel to change the instrament cluster lights the toggle broke so that is useless now. What I want to do is since I have new motors I want to backtrack the wiring correctly so I can use the headlight **** like it is supposed to be. I believe I need a relay and some kind of switch or accuator The wiring to the headlights is intact, its the motor wiring that is Jacked. I'm hoping I can unplug the headlights and tap in a relay or something to get them running all on the headlight ****. Now I have the headlight **** to turn on the headlights, and another switch to rotate them up or down. I'd like to condense that all to just the ****. Thanks a lot. I truely do appreciate your time and knowledge.
the three wire motors have ''end'' switches built in to prevent burn-out when at full travel...the two wire (newer) motors have no built-in switches and rely on the control module to prevent frying the motor...your older headlite switch that operated the relay system for the 3-wire motors will interface perfectly with the newer style control module...you can get a module from your local part store (abt $200 IIRC) or from a j-y for abt $50--vettes are rare in the j-y but the same module was used on 88-92 firebirds and sunbirds abt the same vintage with an extra bracket- easily removed (get the matching connector with it)...use the wiring schematic from a two-wire head motor vette
ok, I have them set up, thanks for the help...now another issue arose, when the hood is up they work perfectly, when the hood is lowered the drivers side almost opens all the way but catches at the end and bounces..I looked for it getting hung up on something but it's clear. I have to mildly force it past the point it gets caught then it finishes. Could the hood be out of alignment to cause this? I noticed the hood mounts (by the air intake and little hydroliclift arms) are slightly different, one has about 4 washers under it where the other is flush, the flush side gives me the problem. I know the car had a front end bender as I can see the overspray.
