Fuel strainer (sock) on a 96
I pointed the longer side down. The strainer is supposed to act like a wick to feed fuel up to the pump, so I figured the lower in the tank the better.
It sits in a plastic trough in the middle of the tank. The trough is like an anti surge thing for high g conering - although as most know it does not work that great.
The old one was kinda crunched up so hard to tell how it was oriented.
Anyone have an idea if this is right. Please, no "I think it goes this way, or on my Mustang it was such & so".
Just post if you are sure your info is correct.
TIA
the short end to the rear, and the strainer clocked so that
the rear/short end is at about 7 and the front/long end is at
about 2
This is an image of a '91, my '89 was about the same.

I know you said not to post uncertain answers but here is
one of many threads on the subject. I think the post(s) near
the end that mention 3 and 6 are trying to say the same thing
as I have above.
I think some time spent to optimize the reach and position of the
sock/pump assembly will pay off.
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND DO ANY WORK IN A WELL
VENTILATED AREA with fire extinguishers with an assistant keeping
watch.
