I've heard that if I replace the stock Bose stereo on my 92 that I'll have to replace all of my speakers as well.

I've also heard that the actual RECIEVER for my radio is somewhere other than behind the faceplate.

I saw a REALLY sweet JVC stero at Best Buy today, made to fit GM cars. I'm wondering if I bought it if I would be able to easily install it... or if I should just stick w/ my original plan and hook up a 10 disk cd changer.

Thanks

I don't know it Best Buy has it, but Crutchfield sales a Bose adapter that U can use on most stereos so U won't have 2 change U'r speakers.

This is better suited for the stereo group of this forum but here are some answers.

There is an adapter that adjusts the power from an aftermarket stereo to a setting your stock BOSE speakers will accept. Most people claim these don't work or are poor quality but I have been running a $20 adapter for over a year and have had no problem. The sound also is good.

The receiver for your stock BOSE stereo is located in the compartment behind the passenger seat. Actually in the trunk area behind the passenger seat. If you are going to install a stereo you will need to run a harness and splice into this area.

It is possible to replace the BOSE stereo with a little work. If you are not electrically inclined I would not recommend the install and would stick with adding a CD changer via RF modulator. As an estimate, I took my time and did my aftermarket video display / stereo install and it took about 5 hours with 2 hours included to build mounting brackets and panel cover. Sorry have to find pictures.

Good luck

I ripped out the bose POS :yesnod: and installed aftermarket stereo. You dont have to change the speakers but you do have to buy a adapter for your processor under the pass side dash.

Suprising I bought the adapter from a US Walmart store. It specifically mentioned the BOSE system and talks about adding aftermarket stereo to a factory installed system. Also can be used in Nissan/Infinity vehicles with the BOSE system.

The price was about $20 US and it looks like a black box with adjustment screws for each channel. It has multiple lines for input and equivalent output. You adjust the unit by setting the adjusters to mid gain and turn them to correct for volume and distortion as you raise volume to 2/3 strength.
