Brake Help Needed: Powerslot Rotors???
Hey Ya'll
Anyone ever heard of Powerslot rotors? Im looking to replace the OEM front pads and rotors on my 93 and came across this company....
Anyone ever used them? Or know anything about them? Im looking to put some kind of rotor on the car that is vented or cross drilled... any other suggestions are welcome too.. thanks!
These are fine rotors. They sweep the pads with the slots. What extent brake job are you planning? Also how do use the car? How do you drive in those heels?
This info helps to choose upgrades for the car and fix things you feel aren't right with it now without wasting money.

Any of the affordable drilled rotors will be a downgrade from your stock ones. Less braking surface and more likely to crack. You may never know the difference if you don't drive it hard. Not saying you shouldn't get them, just understand that the holes are only there for decoration. I don't have any opinion on the slots.

Some say the slotted/not drilled are best. Supposedly the slots carry away the dust and help the cooling. Personally I stay with the solid rotors and ceramic pads.
They're good rotors. I've been running drilled and slotted rotors (Baer eradispeed) for about 5 years now, and they're fine for street driving, which includes speeds over 150 on occasion.

ok well I drive the car about as hard as you can drive a c4 auto on the street and drag race it about once a month... alot of heavy stops from high speed.. The car is not a daily driver.. more of a weekend play toy...
And to Mr. Mojo... sorry.. I took a bath and fell asleep I owe you.. Or wait.. you still owe me two years worth of birthday dinners!!!

Then get some decent pads like Hawk HPS, get your stock rotors turned at Pep Boys for $16 if needed, and bed the pads in. And ABSOLUTELY get the DRM bias spring from dougrippie.com for $12.
You won't get any better than that unless you spend $500-$800 or more. And don't waste a dime on stainless braided brake hoses unless your stock ones are shot.
You'll never hear about me turning rotors again, that just makes them warp that much easier.
I am running Hawk HPS pads with Powerslot slotted and cryogenically treated rotors from tirerack, I love them. I also got some speed bleeders and Superblue brake fluid. I run autox, do lots of drag racing, and just drive very spirited in general to say the least. I've cracked one set of drilled and slotted cheapy ebay rotors, two sets of stock autozone rotors, and warped one stock set that was turned. I can vouch for the powerslots I got! I say get 'em.
Since you never asked about pads, I am assuming that you have all-ready made your decision about those.
I would stay WAY away from cross-drilled rotors, as they are prone to cracking. Powerslot is a great name, make a great product, and you really can't go wrong. The only other company that feel makes a comparable brake rotor is SP Performance, however I have not used any in a C4 application - only in C5.
edit: SP Performance's Part number(s) is T55-009 for a front pair for the C4 w/J55 brake upgrade; or T55-011 for Std Rotor Size

I don't turn rotors either. It seems a good idea to replace if it's on the jacks all dismantled. My rotors are Raybestos forged holes and slotted. Pads are ceramic. Yes I put the worthless stainless brake hoses on while it was up. ATE Superblue to finish.
There are many ways to go. Cryogenic stock solid rotors are gaining popularity and are reasonable. Ceramic pads are quiet and clean without giving away much performance. I think the new lines helped the pedal feel. I believe going to the J55 with used parts(brackets and calipers) and new 13" rotors would be an incredible bang for the buck for you. While all that crap is off you may as well upgrade. My $.02
Powerslots are indeed quality made in the USA parts. Those who say otherwise probually don't have their facts stright. If you look at the back of every Powerslot you will see who they are made by. Stamped into each rotor..The answer...TRW, known for their quality and made in the USA. For those who really road race or autox which I do you will see one thing all of the top cars have. Slotted rotors, not drilled but slotted. The Corvette race teams all have slotted rotors, I doubt it is for show but its to get rid of gases and cool the rotors as much as possible. Now there are cheap junky foreign made rotors out there but Powerslot is not one of them. I've raced the current set on my class winning 96 LT4 with no problems and nothing but praise..Just my opinion....G

Thanks for the advice Its nice to hear that someone else has them and uses them the way I intend. Just one last ?... whats is the difference between the regular slotted rotors and the cryogenic? I assume that the freezing process makes them stronger but is the extra money really worth it in your opinion?

[QUOTE=tlong]I don't turn rotors either.
Yeah I would have to agree, the last time I turned rotors was on my first car.. buick grand national, and they warped. Tried again on an SHO that I had and they warped too.. thats why I am looking for something better then OEM.
SRG don't get any crossdrilled ones, I had mine crack aftger 3K miles. I tried to find slotted for the front to match my rears but couldn't get them. If I were you I'd do the C5 brake upgrade if you haven't yet. It is a big improvement.
Mojo u alright? Is there a bottle of jack somewhere I dont know about? Man, you still didnt even respond to my bday dinner comment.
By the way, what brake set up are you running in both yours?
You'll get dinner.............. once you stick around after we race.
My '95 with the J55 has the Baer Eradispeed with Hawk HPS pads and stock calipers.
The '93 with standard brakes has the Baer Decelerotors with Hawk Cermaic pads.
My '95 used to run with stock replacement rotors from NAPA and NAPA Ceramix pads. They worked pretty good and is the cheapest way to go and still be safe
