Default security alarm

I have an 86 corvette that has had several owners before me and my problem is that no manual came with the car. Just yesterday I walked up to the car and the alarm began going off. I just had to disconnect the horns to stop it. Now when you open the door you will hear a clicking sound in the center part of the dash. How can I disarm the alarm?

Use your door key - stick it into driver side door key hole. Lock/unlock door using key. This is suppose to deactivate it. If that doesnt work - there is something more serious going on.

Could be the door lock unit - faulty alarm module ect..

Try that first.. then post up!

Also: the door key will turn it off from either driver's or passenger's side. If one side doesn't work, try the other.

Default alarm

I removed alarm fuse and it was ok so I replaced it and everything seems to be alright, I went ahead and put key in door and locked then unlocked just to be sure --all seems to be doing good now. Thanks for the info.

If you lock the car with the button. Shut door. Alarm should be armed. You can not stick your hand in through the window and unlock using the button. If you do this - the alarm will sound, and be stuck in that mode. You must use the key. Glad everything is going good for you now!

i hate my alarm, the wiring has been mangled by the previous owners and now the keyless entry sets it off, and the drivers side door lock sets it off, i have to unlock from the passengers side every single time. and im too busy to fix it. i wish i could just kill it, i never need it, car alarms are pretty useless in this day and age, we are all desensitized to them...

Rasin, This is the part you need, but you may have to do some searching to find one in stock.

I had the same problem, opening the drivers side door would set the alarm off, so I would have to use the key to unlock the passenger side door to disengage it. When I beeped the horn it was pretty weak sounding. So I checked the wiring to find that both horns were missing a wire connection.
I hooked both horns back up and now I can open the drivers door without the alarm sounding. Check both horns to see if the wires are connected. It worked for me and now it sounds much louder when I lay on the horn.
