Default 88 Cooling Fan Switch Sensor

greetings,

in the block between cyl 1 + 3 there is the fan temp switch that turns on the fan(s). does anyone have a part number or manufacturer, etc for this sensor EXCEPT in a 160 degree rating instead of the factory rating?

i DON"T WANT references to mid america, ecklers, etc..

does any "local" parts houses such as pep boys, advance auto parts, auto zone have a sensor that i can substitute in the 160* rating?...thanks!

last question; is the tb gasket a dealer part?

.........thanks!

There IS an auxiliary fan switch in the HEAD "between cyl 1 + 3" in 1986 through 1989 cars. In all years after 1984, the MAIN fan is controlled by the ECM.

If you are looking to have your fan(s?) come on at 160°, you may as well save your money and ground that wire going to the switch. Because, except for while the engine is warming up to 160°, the fan will never be off, anyhow.

In all my shopping around I have not come across a 160° aux. fan switch. You can make a manual switch for it. TB gasket, I believe one came in my intake gasket kit from Fel-Pro.

What is it you're trying to accomplish?

As for the TB gasket, you can get them at most parts stores, but usually they come with 2 in the set...make sure you use the right one.

..sorry 'bout the "less then accurate" post as i am working on a hell of a headache!...at any rate, yes on the aux fan switch ( i meant to say that) as you are correct...i have a kit already attached that turns both fans on at 180 and i was wondering if that same part in the kit can be had for 160*. i also am aware of an aux switch i could install for the fans........thanks for the reply.

......thanks for the reply....well, i was surprised to come accross a 180 switch myself!...however, just looking for a 160 to fool around with for a bit....i am aware of an aux switch as above.....i called advance auto parts this morning and they say they don't even have a listing for a tb gasket.......time to try another parts house!...

I think the highest turn on temp either one has is on at 200*. I bought that one to use on my aux fan. IMO on at 160* is way too low. I too would have preferred an on at 215*

..well, i don't know what to say other then i did in fact purchase a kit from one of them and indeed do have a 180* fan sensor in the block.

...the kit gives the option of having 1 or both fans (if it applies) turn on at that temp.......

....as far as 160* goes, everyone has their preferences and their applications and desires to do a bit of experimentation...

Where in the block? What do you do with the one in the head?

Save your money on a switch and just ground the green/white wire. The fans will run continuously with a 160° switch, so just ground the wire and save yourself $10.00.

RACE ON!!!

***well, i think i should have said engine instead of block and as we speak, i can't remember if it is the head or the block!..ugh..will check that tomorrow morning....

***nah..(re:switch)..i have some different plans at this time....but, on another note, i was looking for a robertshaw BALANCED t-stat and found a source for them since the company was bought and sold off twice...i have 3 180*'s in a box and at least 1 195* and i think a 160* or two around here somewhere. checked 2 180*'s so far and are fine.....still have to locate a 160 aftermarket sensor as above.....

Well they don't list them now. I wasn't trying to remember, I looked it up. If you install a 160* sensor your fan will run all the time after warmup and your engine will run too cool, especially in cool weather, to be efficient. But whatever.

Precisely. Which is why I suggested simply grounding the wire, rather than waste time, searching, installing, and money buying, a switch.
