....quick question while i am outside....i went to start car this morning and it cranked but, would not start...(not a vats problem!)..
.....i have fuel pressure....i connected up an inductive timing light and cranked the car and saw nothing.....should not the timing light "light" when cranking.....already replaced coil with a used one i had and still the same.......suspect it is ignition module.......ideas?
Your timing light should blink when you crank. Spark module can be tested, call some parts places that can do it. Pickup coil in the distributor is the next suspect and you can check it with an ohmeter.

...just got back from parts house...bought another ign module and plan on replacing the current one...as i recall, i had to remove the distributor to install it.......ugh!
couple of tests for the pick-up coil. Put both leads from your ohm meter in the connector, flex the wires to check for an intermittent open. The reading should indicate a steady reading of 500-1500 ohms while wires are flexed, if it doesn't then it's bad.Next connect one lead to the connector and ground the other...you should have an infinte reading, repeat with the other side of the connector, if it doesn't, then it's bad.Yeah, unfortunately you have to pull and take the dist. apart to replace it.

....well, i replaced the ignition module and the car starts...now i will wait until morning to see if it turns right over or cranks like usual.... if it cranks like usual, i will remove iac and service (was going to do this today anyway)....i remember replacing the pick up coil in the distributor not too long ago so, that is why i was thinking that i had to remove distributor to replace module....
...i ohmed the p-u coil and i had continuity through it which told me that it wasn't bad and that was good enough for me...no broken wires, etc......i would start on the iac today but, it is borderline rain....a few days ago, i took apart the center info dash to check csv fuse and it was good...i hope that when i replaced the ign mod a while back, that i just got a "flakey" one.....
