Default Corvette/Camaro Hi-performance 96' LT1 LT4 Knock Sensor Module?

I saw this Hi-performance knock module below on E-bay & don't really know if I should put this on my 96' LT1. It seems to me that if I somehow had a gas station attendent that put a lower grade of octane in my tank without me knowing it, I would get all kinds of knock that the computer wouldn't reconize & adjust for. Any thoughtful help would be appreciated.

That's the LT4 knock module. It was used in the LT4 because of the increased engine harmonics caused by the roller rockers. It is a little less sensitive than its LT1 counterpart. Unless you are experiencing false spark retard from roller rockers, headers, ect, it will do nothing for your engine.

Is there any difference in the LT4 knock sensor from 94 to 96? Will it work OK in my 94 LT1?

I experienced three or four timing retards during a recent Datamaster log. I recently installed some 1.6 CC rollers, and the car also has LT headers. I would like to upgrade to a LT4 knock sensor, but want to make sure I get the right one.

Thanks for the help.

There is only one LT4 knock module. But, the 96 LT1/4 uses different knock sensors than the previous years. You, can use the LT4 knock module with your 94 knock sensors.

How can you tell if you have the LT4 knock module? My car came with 1.6rr already installed. What are the differences between the LT1 vs LT4 knock modules?

JJ, from what I remember the LT1 and LT4 knock modules look the same. You will have to check the part number to tell the difference.

LT1 KM: 16177690
LT4 KM: 16214681

Bryan at PCMFORLESS suggested an LT4 knock module and included the change into the re-program for my LT1 PCM. It's less sensitive to engine vibrations and won't retard timing unless there's really a ping.

They are on ebay for $35 right now. It is one of those why not items when the PCM is in your hands. It takes 2 minutes to install. Make any difference? Can't say...went in along with the new program.

There are about a half-dozen different LT1 knock modules. That particular number is for OBD1 Y-body.

LT4 knock module made my '95 run worse. I know it doesn't make sense that it would, but it did. Runs best w/ its stock LT1 KM.

Makes plenty of sense. If you had real knock which the LT1 module heard but the LT4 ignored, then it would run worse with the LT4.

I hate to admit it, but I can't find the knock sensor module on my '94. I disassembled the lower dash on the passenger side last night, but didn't see where to plug in the new LT4 module.

Could someone help me out?

Open hood
Unscrew two PCM (computer) screws
Flip over PCM
Unscrew two torx screws holding on the small cover
Change out module

Yeah it was a bit of wasted energy, but I did get rid of an annoying rattle under the dash.

I went as far as flipping over the PCM and taking the two torx screws out, but the cover was stubborn and I didn't know if I should be taking it apart. Now that I know, I'll get a sledge hammer and loosen it up

Just joking. Thanks Rick
