the AC clutch
you may recall some time ago I posted a question aboutmy AC flinginh goo from around the area of the AC compressor. Amasinly enough it has NOT fixed itself!! I'm pretty sure it is coming from the clutch and no the compressor because the AC still makes ice cubes.
A CF member posted a pix of his AC clutch in pieces. I would like to know if anyone can offer insight as to what is involved in replacing JUST the clutch ***'y. ($90)
What I would like to know also is do I have to have the system bled of R 134? and can I break the recessed nut losse with a Johnson bar while the AC unit is on the car?
ANY help you can offer will appreciated.
This comes at a time when I am setting up to purchase 95yellowvet from the forum!
It's only money.
Bump to CentralCoaster and juriah and john on the yellow 95 project.
Thanks

You don't need to discharge to replace the clutch assembly.
Bolt is held on with 10ft/lbs of torque - so you don't need to go ape
with it. What you do need to do is keep the outer hub from turning because it's bolted to the shaft. Oil filter wrench pliers or a strap wrench works well. Pulley and coil are held on with snap rings. Make sure they're seated when you install the new assembly.
The outer hub is shimmed with small washers to provide an air gap of .020 inch between it and the pulley. You will need a shim kit to reset it (most of the aftermarket assemblys include it).
I sure don't want that happenig. So for now the AC is OUT OF ORDER.
