limp home mode
Car has gone into limp home mode again
Had issues with MAS in past however this seems different
Question is I put a timing light under this rough idle and it's miss firing to the point it fires now and then.
Is this the way limp home mode works or do I have another problem?
It's a 1989 and it is blowing black smoke and using fuel at an incredable rate.surging at any speed,and not holding an idle.The light is showing up before the timing plate and only firing now and then

I had some similar problems with my 89. I wasn't getting any codes either, finally when I unhooked the scan tool and rehooked it up I got a Code 43 (think it was 43) which is the EST (electronic spark timing) I replaced the module and all was fine. I would also check the knock senor.
